FIBRA™ Decorticated Bast Fibre

Our premium hemp bast fibre, cleaned to 99% purity, is an excellent natural alternative to rockwool for the production of hemp-based insulation. Suitable for use as loose-fill, non-woven slabs, or semi-rigid insulation boards, it delivers outstanding thermal performance, moisture regulation, and natural antibacterial properties. Combined with superior acoustic absorption, this fibre provides a renewable, carbon-negative and fully compostable insulation solution that is safe to handle and virtually dust-free.

Product Uses

Fibra bast fibre is supplied in compressed bale form for ease of handling, transport, and storage. Once opened, the fibre naturally expands and can be fed directly into downstream processing equipment.

Technical & Physical Characteristics

Fibra's bast fibre is mechanically decorticated and cleaned to provide a high-quality, consistent natural fibre suitable for commercial and industrial processors.

  • Appearance: Light tan / natural off-white; colour may vary with crop conditions
  • Fibre Length: Medium–long staple fibre suitable for nonwovens, composites, insulation, and blending.
  • Cleanliness: Dust-reduced fibre with low shive content for improved processing efficiency
  • Moisture Content: Typically <10% at time of baling
  • Biodegradability: 100% natural and biodegradable
  • Toxicity: Non-toxic, chemical-free, and safe to handle
  • Origin: British-grown, mechanically processed hemp (Cannabis Sativa L.)

These properties make Fibra’s bast fibre a stable, predictable raw material for automated manufacturing environments requiring uniformity and reliability.

Handling & Storage Guidance

To maintain the quality and performance of Fibra bast fibre bales, we recommend:

  • Storage: Keep bales in a dry, well-ventilated area. Avoid long-term exposure to moisture.
  • Stacking: Do not stack more than one unit high unless using racking.
  • Opening: Wear eye protection when cutting the wiring.

These steps help preserve fibre integrity and ensure smooth processing performance.

Technical & Performance Advantages

Fibra's bast fibre delivers a robust set of material benefits for manufacturers seeking a sustainable, high-performance natural fibre:

  • Lightweight Strength: High tensile strength and low density make hemp fibre an ideal reinforcement material for composites.
  • Thermal & Acoustic Performance: Naturally strong insulating and sound-damping characteristics.
  • Consistent Processing: Mechanically cleaned, dust-reduced fibre improves equipment uptime and reduces wear.
  • Chemical-Free: Produced without pesticides or chemical retting, suitable for eco-labelled applications.
  • Excellent Bonding: Strong compatibility with bio-resins and polymer matrices.
  • Circular & Compostable: End-of-life biodegradable.

These benefits make Fibra Bast fibre a reliable natural alternative for technical manufacturers.
